Hyukoh’s throughlove LP Cover

2023
I designed a lp cover for the Korean indie rock band Hyukoh’s album ‘through love’. The subtle yet rhythmical notes are highlighted through the movements of the album title ‘throughlove’ and the highlight on the letter ‘o’ on the front cover. 

Three distinct colors of black, green and a hint of yellow are used to enhance the simple and peaceful aura of the album itself.

한국 록 밴드 혁오의 앨범 through love의 LP 커버를 디자인했습니다. 앨범 타이틀 throughlove의 움직임과 전면 커버에서 강조된 ‘o’의 디테일을 통해, 섬세하면서도 리듬감 있는 음을 시각적으로 표현했습니다.

블랙, 그린, 그리고 옐로우의 포인트, 세 가지 색상을 사용해 앨범이 지닌 단순하고 평화로운 분위기를 더욱 부각시켰습니다.

Nothing Matters is a graduate thesis project exploring the concept of nothingness through art, philosophy, and daily life. It reflects on how absence and silence in design evoke emotion, provoke thought, and challenge norms.

The book’s minimalist design—set in Plantin, bound with exposed thread—embraces simplicity and stillness as a visual expression of its themes.

Nothing Matters 는 예술, 철학, 그리고 일상을 통해 ‘무(無)’의 개념을 탐구한 대학원 졸업 논문 프로젝트입니다. 디자인 속의 부재와 침묵이 어떻게 감정을 불러일으키고, 사유를 자극하며, 기존의 규범에 도전하는지를 성찰합니다.

책은 플랜틴 서체로 제작되었으며, 노출 제본 방식으로 엮어져 있습니다. 단순성과 고요함을 시각적으로 구현한 이 미니멀한 디자인은 프로젝트의 주제를 고스란히 담아냅니다.


Short Stories About Cats

I designed and hand-bound a book of short stories about cats, experimenting with an unconventional binding method. The structure features a continuous red paper strip that folds over each signature, complemented by an additional strip to identify page numbers.

For the paper, I chose MASA, known for its smooth texture on one side and roughness on the other, which perfectly suited the intricate binding technique. The process was both precise and labor-intensive, but the final result reflects a seamless fusion of design and storytelling.

고양이에 관한 짧은 이야기들을 엮은 책을 디자인했습니다. 실험적인 비전통 제본 방식을 적용했으며, 구조는 각 대지를 감싸 접히는 연속적인 붉은 종이 띠와 페이지 번호를 표시하는 보조 띠로 구성되어 있습니다.

종이는 한쪽은 매끄럽고 다른 한쪽은 거친 질감을 지닌 MASA를 선택했습니다. 이는 섬세한 제본 기법과 잘 어우러졌습니다. 제작 과정은 정밀하고 많은 수고를 요구했지만, 최종 결과물은 디자인과 스토리텔링이 매끄럽게 융합된 형태로 완성되었습니다.


Study of Pika

Cross disciplinary research on American Pika. I focused my initial research on the habitual behavior of American Pika which is to live in between the rocks of high mountains and collecting grass inside their little cave for the winter. 

Pika communicates through specific squeaking sounds, which inspired me to create a Pika version of the alphabet with the help of ChatGPT. I designed the letters based on the shape of the rocks they may live in and the shapes are chosen by the sounds of the alphabet. 

아메리칸 피카의 생활 방식에 관한 연구. 초기 연구에서는 피카의 습성에 주목했는데, 피카는 높은 산의 바위 사이에 거주하며 겨울을 대비해 작은 동굴 안에 풀을 모으는 행동을 합니다.

피카는 특정한 ‘찍찍’ 소리로 의사소통을 하는데, 이 점에서 영감을 받아 ChatGPT의 도움으로 피카 알파벳을 제작했습니다. 알파벳의 글자 형태는 피카가 살 수 있는 바위의 모양을 기반으로 디자인되었으며, 각 형태는 알파벳 소리의 특성에 따라 선택되었습니다.

Enchanted Medicine

Since childhood, I have always been interested in portrayal of medicine in animations and movies. In this project, I created a packaging remix of animations and movies that influenced my perception of medicines.

어릴 적부터 저는 애니메이션과 어린이 영화 속 약의 묘사에 항상 관심이 있었습니다. 이번 프로젝트에서는 저의 약 인식에 영향을 준 애니메이션과 영화들을 재해석하여 패키지 디자인으로 제작했습니다.

I love visiting art museums in New York and often take pictures of artwork descriptions that resonate with me. However, I rarely revisit them in my photo album. 

To truly reflect on the pieces I love, I created a book that replicates the typography of these descriptions while including a Korean translation for easy readability.

저는 뉴욕의 미술관들을 방문하면 마음에 와닿는 작품의 설명을 사진으로 자주 찍습니다. 하지만 찍어둔 사진을 앨범에서 다시 보는 일은 드뭅니다.

좋아하는 작품을 진정으로 되새기기 위해, 저는 이러한 설명의 타이포그래피를 그대로 재현하고 한국어 번역을 함께 담은 책을 제작했습니다.
